Lex Trent versus the Gods by Alex Bell

Cover art: 4/7
Title: 5/7
Story: 4.5/7
Characters: 5/7
Overall: 4.5/7

Cheats never prosper. At least that’s what everyone else would have you believe. But Lex Trent knows better. Lex knows that, with a bit of luck, the quickest route to success is to lie, swindle and cheat all the way to the top. Unfortunately Lex has taken his scams a step too far… Rather than see his neck in a noose, he’s forced to go on the run in a world of irritable Gods, fearsome magicians and strange beasts. But luck is still on his side, just.
The Gods’ favourite pastime is The Games… and Lex has just become one of the human playing pieces. With fame, glory and untold wealth at stake, Lex isn’t going to lose (especially as that so often involves dying) – in fact, he fully intends to beat the Gods at their own game.

This again was a bit of a slow starter, but got interesting way earlier than most other slow starting books. Lex is such a smart arse but you can't help but love him! Its all a part of his charm and there is reason behind it which is kinda sad. Mr Schmidt seems a bit of a pompous arse at first but he better and he too becomes an important and almost lovable character. Lady Luck, like Mr Schmidt, starts off being VERY dislikable, but comes through in the end and starts actually being polite and bearable! I cant go any more into characters without giving anything away but the story got REALLY interesting and really awesome. I wanted and expected more out of this book which was a big mistake as i should not go into books with a high expectation cause generally when I do they disappoint me (Like Tithe by holly Black) but this one wasnt too disappointing and I'm really glad i read it = ]

Willow knows she’s different from other girls. And not just because she loves tinkering around with cars. Willow has a gift. She can look into people’s futures, know their dreams, their hopes and their regrets, just by touching them. She has no idea where she gets this power from…
But Alex does. Gorgeous, mysterious Alex knows Willow’s secret and is on a mission to stop her. The dark forces within Willow make her dangerous – and irresistible. In spite of himself, Alex finds he is falling in love with his sworn enemy.

Wow. This book was actually pretty good. It took a while to start up and i'm glad it started to get interesting when it did! Willow is a mans girl. She's good with cars, doesnt wear make up and other girls don't understand her. Everyone thinks she's crazy! Even her best friend. Its sad, i was kinda upset reading the start of this. But i'm not going to say anything in fear that I will give it away for all! She's relatable, so even though she is half angel (If I gave this away i'm sorry, but it just seemed to be a part that is well known and kinda obvious haha) she seems friendly and is easily liked! Alex, don't get me started on Alex! He's.....wow! Part of the reason I really like this book is because of the characters. Namely Alex. What makes him more attractive to me is his tattoo. This is really all i can say about him without gushing! The story line, while slow, was actually pretty good but what drew me in was the cover. This was the reason i bought the book. After reading the blurb I still wasn't sure, I put it back and went back and got it again quite a few times. But in the end i bought it and am glad I did!

Blurb:

For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch came along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment.
But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure who to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.
For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life.

This book for me was awesome! Not the best I've ever read but certainly not the worst. Its up there. Lets start with the cover. This picture, whenever I look at it has always reminded me of Patrick Swayze. I dont know why, but those months that I looked at the cover from afar thats just what I saw, which is probably why it took me so long to read! But i'm glad I did cause I loved it! Thats really all I'll probably be able to say without giving anything away to the few of my readers who haven't read it. So i hope those of you who havent, do! This book is awesome. Crescendo (The second) comes out late next month = ]

REVIEW!

Sorry its been so long! I havent had any time to read books!

But not that I did i kind of regret starting again. I'm reviewing Betrayed by PC and Kristin Cast. Its the second to the marked series, which is the only reason i started to read it. I couldn't complete it, i got a few chapters in and i couldn't stand it. The first one was bad, but this one was worse! I'm going to put up the blurb just in case you want to read it, but i;m not even going to rate it. i severely disliked it.
This is the blurb....

Fledgling vampyre Zoey Redbird has managed to settle in at the House of Night.  She’s come to terms with the vast powers the vampyre goddess, Nyx, has given her, and is getting a handle on being the new Leader of the Dark Daughters. Best of all, Zoey finally feels like she belongs--like she really fits in. She actually has a boyfriend…or two. Then the unthinkable happens: Human teenagers are being killed, and all the evidence points to the House of Night. While danger stalks the humans from Zoey’s old life, she begins to realize that the very powers that make her so unique might also threaten those she loves. Then, when she needs her new friends the most, death strikes the House of Night, and Zoey must find the courage to face a betrayal that could break her heart, her soul, and jeopardize the very fabric of her world.

Song for the week? You and me by life house = ]
